Hot Lunch

Offered: Twice a Month

The students have the option of purchasing a hot lunch (usually 2 menu choices). This special treat is enjoyed by a large number of students. Previously offered lunches include: Jerry's Pizzeria, Burger King, Puerta Vallarta, Fong's Chinese Restaurant, Hot Dog's from an anonymous source.

Ice Cream Sale

Offered: Every Friday

Each Friday, the students have a chance to purchase an ice cream snack for $0.50. Usually we offer: Ice cream sandwiches, Fudgsicles, Ice cream bars, Strawberry Shortcake popsicles, and Chocolate Eclair popsicles.

Jean Day

Offered: Monthly

Students get the chance to wear jeans instead of their uniforms by contributing $1.00 to the school. Please refer to the Parent/Teacher Handbook for the proper dress code for jean day. Click Here to view the Handbook.

School Store

Offered: Daily

St. John School has a school store! Students can purchase items such as: highlighters, pencils & pens, notebooks, folders, erasers, glue sticks, and more. The prices range from $0.25 to $1.00.

Monthly Mass

Offered: Monthly

The students of Saint John School celebrate Mass together as a community on the 1st Friday of each month. Each class has the opportunity to plan the Mass, prepare the readings, bring the gifts to the altar, and lead the school in song. Family and friends are always welcome to share in this special celebration.

Library Readers Volunteer Program

Coordinator: Ellen Nattila - (860)344-5457

Would you enjoy reading aloud to your child and his/her classmates once a month? We need volunteers to make stories come alive to students in grades K - 5 during their library time. The students may also need help picking out a particular book that peaks their interest. Please feel free to contact the coordinator or the school to volunteer for this program.

Room Parent Coordinator

Coordinator: Erin Russ - (860)267-8581

The Room Parent Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and advising room parents. The coordinator is the liaison between room parents and teachers. Some of the duties of the Room Parent Coordinator include but are not limited to the following:

  • Work with the Principal in compiling a room parent volunteer list
  • Organize and compile a class list for each grade
  • Organize and advise room parents on specific class duties
  • Gather information and requests from teachers on specific classroom needs

Room Parents

One parent volunteer is needed for each class. The room parent will work directly with the Room Parent Coordinator to assist the teachers in supplying necessary refreshments for class parties and school functions. Room parent duties also include coordinating such school functions as follows:

  • Kindergarten Graduation (coordinated by Grade 1)
  • First Holy Communion (coordinated by Grade 3 &5)
  • 8th Grade Class Night (coordinated by Grade 7)

Special School Events

Catholic Schools Week
January 28, 2007 through February 3, 2007

This week begins the annual national celebration of Catholic Schools Week. It is a week long celebration in honor of the dedication by Catholic Schools to provide our children with the highest quality of Catholic Education. Some of the special events through the week include: A school mass, Student Leadership Day, Free Jean Day and Pizza Day, a Spaghetti Dinner and Teacher/Staff Appreciation Day.

You do not want to miss this event! A theatrical production put on by our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. Past shows include: Shrek, Sister Act, Sister Act 2, The Wizard of Oz, Annie, Peter Pan, and Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Parent Volunteers are always needed to help with ticket sales, costumes, props, and rehearsals. Please do not wait to get involved in this spectacular event.

Friendship Day

Following a school mass, older students buddy up with younger students for a fun lunchtime on the Rectory lawn. Hot dogs, chips, cookies, and ice pops will be served.
